Pillars in the Community

We recorded over 2,500 hours of community service with local, regional and national nonprofit organizations in 2015-16. Volunteer efforts emphasize mentoring and supporting local youth, education, serving the homeless and promoting physical activity.

ALLSTATE AFCA GOOD WORKS TEAM

Rice quarterback Driphus Jackson was one of 22 student-athletes selected to receive the most esteemed off-the-field honor in college football in December 2015.

TEAM ZIGGY

Rice Football signed Fre'derick "Ziggy" Stoval-Redd to a national letter of intent to be an honorary member of the team on April 8, 2015. The addition of Ziggy, a leukemia patient, is through Team IMPACT, an organization that matches children with life-threatening illnesses to college athletic teams.

TEAM BENNETT

Rice Men's Tennis named Bennett Nester an honorary captain in May 2014. Bennett, a brain cancer patient, even has his own locker in the George R. Brown Tennis Center. This special relationship has been facilitated through the Friends of Jacyln Foundation.

SERVING OUR HOMELESS

Rice Swimming has partnered with the Houston Food Bank to help pack donated food, providing aid to Houston's hungry and homeless.

SERVING OUR CHILDREN

Both Rice Men's Basketball and Baseball are committed to helping the children of Houston, whether it is serving underprivileged children through the Boys and Girls Club or sick children at the Shriner's Hospital or underprivileged children.
